Dr. Ramir B. Uytico, CESO IV

Director IV
Department of Education Region VIII

On behalf of DepEd Region VIII, I am honored to welcome you all to School Year 2020-2021. As we approach an unprecedented academic year, let us be filled with hope and optimism. We are resolute in overcoming the pandemic and continuing the delivery of quality, accessible, relevant, and liberating basic education.

Our children’s education must continue. Hence, we are relentless in putting up seamless measures to ensure continuity of basic education in the region despite our limitations. The Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan of DepEd Region VIII, otherwise known as Emergency Roadmap encapsulates a bigbang of strategic responses to the challenges brought by the Covid-19 pandemic. This likewise ensures the alignment of all our initiatives, innovations, and interventions from the regional office down to the division offices and schools to address the demands of time.

It is through our religious implementation of these measures that has given our learners, parents, stakeholders, and partners the confidence in DepEd Region VIII, thereby catapulting us to Rank No. 1 in enrollment in the entire Philippines despite the health crisis. We ensure that our schools, families, communities, and stakeholders are meaningfully engaged in sharing our responsibility of developing lifelong learners. Indeed, collaboration divides our responsibilities and multiplies our success.

Now more than ever, we shall find ways to connect and strengthen our schools, homes, and communities so that meaningful learning and development of our dear learners can flourish as learning opportunities are made available to all of them, while upholding health and safety of all. We shall find ways to make this year as a time of innovation, unity, and resilience.

Region VIII’s resilience has been proven and tested by circumstances and time. We stood adamant against the onslaught of Super Typhoon Yolanda tragedy. We have grown stronger, more tenacious, and more courageous. Now that we are again marooned in the midst of pandemic, we must blaze the path toward the new and better normal.

As we head on to another school year, I encourage all of you – stakeholders, partners, advocates, and champions of education – to help us build and sustain both virtual and physical learning environments and communities that are responsive to the present challenges. Also, let us continue our collaboration and partnership as we work toward the realization of our shared destiny and collective aspiration of producing self-propelled learners. Together, we shall rise. Together, we shall succeed. Together, we shall keep Region 8 great because REHIYON OTSO, LISTO!
